Con este fin se seleccionaron una serie de tejidos animales (menisco articular, cart\u00edlago hialino, placa articular, tend\u00f3n, h\u00edgado, p\u00e1ncreas, ri\u00f1\u00f3n, mucosa digestiva, coraz\u00f3n y m\u00fasculo estriado) y humanos (h\u00edgado y piel).  se emplearon tres microscopios confocales: un prototipo experimental (con un l\u00e1ser nd: yag de 1064 nm de longitud de onda) y dos versiones comerciales (con l\u00e1ser diodo de 830 nm de longitud de onda). Este trabajo demuestra que la microscop\u00eda confocal de reflexi\u00f3n con l\u00e1ser infrarrojo cercano permite obtener mapas seriados digitalizados de la refractividad de los tejidos en los estados in vivo y ex vivo, de manera inmediata sin da\u00f1ar dichos tejidos.  el estudio de tejidos en estado in vivo revela una mejor definici\u00f3n de su arquitectura tisular y brinda la posibilidad de analizar fen\u00f3menos fisiol\u00f3gicos en tiempo real. La principal limitaci\u00f3n de esta t\u00e9cnica es su reducida profundidad de campo. Otra limitaci\u00f3n de el contraste entre estructura integrantes del tejido y de la c\u00e9lula, el cual aumenta con el empleo de agentes de contraste espec\u00edficos.  mediante el empleo de esta t\u00e9cnica se observan diferencias entre tejidos normales y patol\u00f3gicos.
