Estas bacterias se desplazan desliz\u00e1ndose como un enjambre en una superficie semis\u00f3lida. Esta comunidad multicelular se nutre de otros microorganismos y macromol\u00e9culas utilizando enzimas extracelulares. Cuando las mixobacterias se encuentran en un medio con nutrientes siguen un ciclo de vida vegetativo durante el cual cada c\u00e9lula individual se elonga y, finalmente, se divide mediante fisi\u00f3n binaria originando dos c\u00e9lulas hijas. Sin embargo cuando los nutrientes del medio se agotan las c\u00e9lulas inician un ciclo de desarrollo, muy particular entre los procariotas, aunque muestra varias similitudes con el ciclo de desarrollo de ciertos eucariotas. Aunque el agotamiento de los nutrientes desencadena el ciclo de desarrollo, deben darse varias circunstancias adicionales para que el ciclo se complete, tales como una alta densidad celular (que permite la transmisi\u00f3n de diversas se\u00f1ales entre las c\u00e9lulas) y una superficie s\u00f3lida (que posibilita el movimiento por deslizamiento).  cuando la densidad celular es suficiente, las c\u00e9lulas son m\u00f3viles y los nutrientes del medio se han agotado, las c\u00e9lulas dentro de un enjambre comienzan a moverse hacia ciertos puntos donde se agregan y originan estructuras multicelulares y macrosc\u00f3picas denominadas cuerpos fructificantes.  en el interior de los cuerpos fructificantes las c\u00e9lulas bacilares vegetativas se diferencian en c\u00e9lulas metab\u00f3licamente quiescentes y resistentes a la desecaci\u00f3n, la radiaci\u00f3n uv y la sonicaci\u00f3n denominadas mix\u00f3sporas.  la formaci\u00f3n del cuerpo fructificante es un proceso din\u00e1mico en el cual se pueden diferenciar diversas etapas:  a,- un gran n\u00famero (10 5-10 7) de c\u00e9lulas del enjambre pierde su individualidad f\u00edsica durante el proceso de
