Las t\u00e9cnicas electrofisiol\u00f3gicas permiten realizar un estudio funcional de las c\u00e9lulas y los sistemas normales o con alg\u00fan tipo de patolog\u00eda. A tal efecto en la presente tesis se trabaj\u00f3 con modelos animales de retinosis pigmentaria y se estudiaron dos elementos claves en el procesamiento de  la informaci\u00f3n: la transmisi\u00f3n sin\u00e1ptica y la modulaci\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n procesada.  en la retina el principal neurotransmisor de las v\u00edas horizontales de transmisi\u00f3n de la informaci\u00f3n visual es el gaba. Estas v\u00edas permiten el procesamiento de la informaci\u00f3n transmitida desde los fotorreceptores a las c\u00e9lulas bipolares y de \u00e9stas a sus c\u00e9lulas postsin\u00e1pticas.  la modulaci\u00f3n de la transmisi\u00f3n gaba\u00e9rgica en las v\u00edas de la retina permitir\u00e1 un ajuste de la modulaci\u00f3n de la se\u00f1al generada por las v\u00edas horizontales. en la terminal ax\u00f3nica de las c\u00e9lulas bipolares de bast\u00f3n, la activaci\u00f3n de los receptores ionotr\u00f3picos de gaba tiene dos componentes claramente diferenciables, una corriente transitoria debida a la activaci\u00f3n de los receptores de gabaa y una corriente sostenida debida a la activaci\u00f3n de los receptores de gabac. Nuestros resultados sugieren que los dos tipos de corrientes inducidas por la activaci\u00f3n de dos tipos de receptores ionotr\u00f3picos de gaba son moduladas por distintas substancias neuroactivas, permitiendo un ajuste temporal de la inhibici\u00f3n gaba\u00e9rgica y con ello la regulaci\u00f3n fina de la liberaci\u00f3n del neurotransmisor en la terminal ax\u00f3nica de las c\u00e9lulas bipolares.  la serotonina modula los receptores gabaa en las c\u00e9lulas bipolares de bast\u00f3n de retina de rat\u00f3n, sin afectar a las corrientes inducidas por los receptores de gabac.
