En ella estan implicadas dos proteinas, codificadas por los genes rib3 y rib4. El gen rib3 ha sido clonado como un fragmento psti-pvuii de 1.5 kb. Este gen codifica una proteina de 24 kda, que ha sido purificada y se ha podido comprobar que posee actividad sintetasa de 3,4-dihidroxi-2-butanona-4-fosfato.  el gen rib4 se ha aislado como un fragmento bg1ii-hpai de 2.1 db, que codifica una proteina de 18.6 kda. La proteina ha sido purificada y se ha comprobado que posee actividad sintetasa de 6,7-dimetil-8-ribitil-lumazina, y que en condiciones nativas presenta un tama\u00f1o molecular de 95 kda, por lo que se trata de un pentamero con cinco subunidades identicas.  los genes rib3 y rib4 han sido fusionados a promotores fuertes, ppgk y ptef1 respectivamente, consiguiendose un aumento en las actividades
