La metodolog\u00eda que se ha utilizado consiste principalmente en la realizaci\u00f3n de ensayos de indentaci\u00f3n hertz, en combinaci\u00f3n con sus simulaciones num\u00e9ricas (fem). Los ensayos mec\u00e1nicos se han realizado sobre estructuras multicapa transparentes, que permiten la observaci\u00f3n (em in situ) del inicio y posterior evoluci\u00f3n del da\u00f1o. Sin embargo, el an\u00e1lisis efectuado tiene validez general y permite entender las propiedades de contacto de estructuras multicapa de naturaleza muy diversa.  en particular, se han identificado y caracterizado los mecanismos de da\u00f1o por contacto en sistemas multicapas. Adem\u00e1s, se ha efectuado un an\u00e1lisis riguroso de las tensiones generadas por contacto en estos sistemas y se han propuesto expresiones semiemp\u00edricas que las describen. A partir de estas expresiones es posible realizar predicciones acerca del da\u00f1o al cual ser\u00e1 m\u00e1s susceptible un determinado sistema y estimar la carga promedio a la cual aparecer\u00e1 dicho da\u00f1o. De este modo se establecen las bases cient\u00edficas para poder realizar un dise\u00f1o inteligente de las estructuras multicapa y optimizar su comportamiento en servicio.  los resultados de este estudio tienen implicaciones de inter\u00e9s para la selecci\u00f3n y dise\u00f1o inteligente de estructuras multicapa que sean adecuadas para las diferentes
