Se parte de una introducci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica sobre la finalidad de las penas y una descripci\u00f3n de la estrategia multim\u00e9todo que orienta la investigaci\u00f3n, para continuar con la descripci\u00f3n del sistema penitenciario espa\u00f1ol, espacio, poblaci\u00f3n e imagen social de la c\u00e1rcel, para dar paso al an\u00e1lisis de los mecanismos espec\u00edficamente orientados a la reinsecci\u00f3n social en el medio penitenciario. Por \u00faltimo, tras contextualizar y describir el espacio penitenciario en galicia, se presentan los resultados obtenidos en la encuesta realizada a los trabajadores sociales y se exponen las
