En el sobrenadante de cultivo, se han detectado al menos tres bandas con actividad frente a cmc, cuyas masas moleculares son: 56,47 y 39 kda.  a partir de genotecas parciales de dna genomico de bacillus sp. 186-1, se han aislado tres fragmentos de dna que constituyen el gen celb1, que codifica una celulasa alcalina.  dicho gen presenta un promotor del tipo sigma a, determinado por homolog\u00eda con las secuencias consenso. La proteina codificada presenta un peptido se\u00f1al de 25 aminoacidos, y un dominio catalico de 305 aminoacidos. Se han encontrado tres residuos que pueden ser fundamentales para la actividad: arginina (88), histidina (127) y glutamico (165).  la proteina celb1 pertenece a la familia a de las beta-glucanasas.  la expresion del gen en e. Coli produce una proteina con actividad cmcasica, localizada en el periplasma, con un ph optimo de reaccion de 8 y una temperatura optima de 50 grados c.  ademas es estable entre ph 6 y 10 y hasta 40
