En el caso de guill\u00e9n y hughes, el origen de la exploraci\u00f3n de estas tradiciones supone una reparaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica. La comparaci\u00f3n de sus libros demuestra c\u00f3mo la di\u00e1spora de los descendientes de africanos floreci\u00f3 culturalmente a lo largo de m\u00e1s de cuatro siglos en norteam\u00e9rica y el caribe. Ambos poetas de principios de siglo xx -un per\u00edodo de grandes cambios sociales y est\u00e9ticos, marcados por las rupturas de movimientos como el modernism y las vanguardias- establecieron correspondencia y conocieron la obra del otro, fundiendo los legados orales y escritos en su poes\u00eda, combinando el folklore contempor\u00e1neo y ancestral, y las tradiciones literarias y musicales -como el jazz, el blues o el son.  su trabajo es a la vez moderno y tradicional, buscando forjar obras fundacionales a trav\u00e9s de la legitimaci\u00f3n de las nuevas est\u00e9ticas -intenci\u00f3n cuyo  inicio podr\u00eda remontarse al influjo del romanticismo y sus versiones americanas, el trascendentalismo y el modernismo hispanoamericano respectivamente-, tomando parte en un proceso de reformulaci\u00f3n y aclimataci\u00f3n a fines propios, t\u00edpico de las literaturas perif\u00e9ricas. La funci\u00f3n de la m\u00fasica y el uso de este elemento en la poes\u00eda de guill\u00e9n y hughes demuestra c\u00f3mo el remarcar la voz y el ritmo permite a estos poetas simult\u00e1neamente adoptar y rechazar ciertos aspectos de la modernidad literaria.  en el transcurso de esta tesis he comparado la forma consciente de asumir e indagar en la tradici\u00f3n africana, expresada desde las asociaciones culturales e hist\u00f3ricas, que van desde emplear los aportes y la inspiraci\u00f3n de la antropolog\u00eda, el arte moderno y las experimentaciones de otros poetas, anteriores y
