El desarrollo de estas t\u00e9cnicas de aprendizaje es el objetivo del \u00e1rea de investigaci\u00f3n denominada aprendizaje autom\u00e1tico. durante la \u00faltima d\u00e9cada, se han producido numerosos y destacados avances en esta \u00e1rea, principalmente gracias al \u00e9xito de la aplicaci\u00f3n autom\u00e1tico en la extracci\u00f3n de conocimiento desde bases de datos, a cuya parte m\u00e1s importante se le llama miner\u00eda de datos. Muchas de las t\u00e9cnicas empleadas en este campo tienen una aplicabilidad muy limitada, debido al uso de lenguajes de representaci\u00f3n del conocimiento muy restrictivos o no comprensibles, pero que, sin embargo, simplifican significativamente la complejidad inherente al proceso de aprendizaje. Por ello recientemente, se han definido varios m\u00e9todos basados en el enriquecimiento de la expresividad de los lenguajes de representaci\u00f3n del conocimiento. En concreto, un avance muy importante se ha producido al incorporar lenguajes basados en la l\u00f3gica de primer orden en el proceso de aprendizaje; \u00e9ste es precisamente el nexo com\u00fan de los algoritmos de inducci\u00f3n pertenecientes al campo denominado programaci\u00f3n l\u00f3gica inductiva (ilp).  cabe resaltar, no obstante, las carencias que presentan los lenguajes l\u00f3gicos utilizados en lip en cuanto a caracter\u00edsticas interesantes para el aprendizaje, tales como el orden superior, los tipos, o las funciones. Otra forma muy diferente, aunque tambi\u00e9n muy popular, de potenciar la expresividad del lenguaje de representaci\u00f3n es la generaci\u00f3n de una hip\u00f3tesis mediante la combinaci\u00f3n de un conjunto de modelos. Esta aproximaci\u00f3n, usualmente m\u00e9todos multiclasificador, sin embargo presenta importantes inconvenientes como son la p\u00e9rdida de comprensibilidad del modelo combinado y un alto consumo
