Se han realizado experimentos con distintas especies en condiciones controladas, cultivando las plantas en distintos sistemas: macetas con sustratos mezclados con lodos o con suelos contaminados procedentes de la zona, y cultivo hidrop\u00f3nico con adici\u00f3n de lodos o con exceso de zn o de pb-edta.  se puso de manifiesto el efecto t\u00f3xico de la contaminaci\u00f3n, que provoc\u00f3 reducciones de crecimiento y aparici\u00f3n de s\u00edntomas.  la contaminaci\u00f3n provoc\u00f3 un aumento de concentraci\u00f3n de metales en la parte a\u00e9rea, sobre todo de fe, zn, mn y cu, teniendo poco efecto sobre la de pb y cd. Solamente en medio hidrop\u00f3nico con exceso de pb-edta se alcanzaron concentraciones de pb elevadas. En los experimentos con suelos contaminados hubo relaci\u00f3n entre ph \u00e1cido, acumulaci\u00f3n de metales en parte a\u00e9rea y reducci\u00f3n de crecimiento.  en algunos experimentos con sustrato s\u00f3lido se aplic\u00f3 edta cuando las plantas hab\u00edan alcanzado un cierto desarrollo. Esto increment\u00f3 la concentraci\u00f3n de metales en parte a\u00e9rea, de forma m\u00e1s destacada para zn y pb, lleg\u00e1ndose a producir reducciones de crecimiento y s\u00edntomas severos de toxicidad con las concentraciones m\u00e1s altas de edta. En un experimento en una parcela contaminada de la zona se cultivaron girasol y ma\u00edz.
