Este amino\u00e1cido ejerce sus acciones a trav\u00e9s de receptores espec\u00edficos presentes en neuronas postsin\u00e1pticas, los cuales se dividen en receptores metabotr\u00f3picos e ionotr\u00f3picos. Los receptores ionotr\u00f3picos del glutamato (iglurs) poseen un canal i\u00f3nico en su estructura y se divide en receptores delta, ampa (ampars), ka (kars) y nmda (nmdars). Estos tres \u00faltimos se hallan presentes como en hip\u00f3fisis como en el hipot\u00e1lamo. A este nivel estos receptores participan en la regulaci\u00f3n de m\u00faltiples hormonas entre las que se encuentra la hormona de crecimiento (gh), si bien se desconoce a trav\u00e9s de que v\u00edas (directamente sobre la hip\u00f3fisis, donde se encuentran las c\u00e9lulas secretoras de gh, y\/o sobre el hipot\u00e1lamo, donde se produce el principal p\u00e9ptido estimulador de gh, ghrh, y el principal p\u00e9ptido inhbidor de gh, somatosatina (ss)) estos receptores act\u00faan sobre gh.  con este objetivo elaboramos diferentes modelos experimentales in vivo e in vitro donde evaluamos como la manipulaci\u00f3n de los iglurs afecta a la secreci\u00f3n de gh y a la expresi\u00f3n g\u00e9nica de ghrh y ss. Adicionalmente se evalu\u00f3 si las acciones de estos recptores, al igual que lo que ocurre en la regulaci\u00f3n de otras funciones, est\u00e1n mediadas por el \u00f3xido n\u00edtrico (no), el cual por datos previos obtenidos en nuestro laboratorio sab\u00edamos que participa en la regulaci\u00f3n de gh a trav\u00e9s de ss.  nuestros datos nos permiten concluir que los ampars estimulan la secreci\u00f3n de gh, a trav\u00e9s de la liberaci\u00f3n de ghrh hipotal\u00e1mica, a pesar de que a nivel hipofisario estos receptores ejercen una inhibici\u00f3n t\u00f3nica de dicha secreci\u00f3n. Los kars tambi\u00e9n estimulan la secreci\u00f3n de gh a trav\u00e9s de la liberaci\u00f3n de ghrh hipotal\u00e1mica.
