Aunque no se conoce la verdadera etiolog\u00eda de la enfermedad, si se han establecido una serie de factores de riesgo que intentar seleccionar aquellas personas con mayor probabilidad de desarrollar esta patolog\u00eda. Sin embargo una vez que la enfermedad que se ha establecido, es necesario la existencia de una serie de factores pron\u00f3stico que sirvan para predecir la evoluci\u00f3n de la enfermedad, y por tanto de la paciente.  aunque existen una gran variedad de factores pron\u00f3stico en c\u00e1ncer de mama, hay que tener en cuenta que el c\u00e1ncer en general y el c\u00e1ncer de mama en particular es una enfermedad sumamente compleja y multifactorial, por lo que la informaci\u00f3n obtenida a partir de un solo fctor pron\u00f3stico nos aporta una informaci\u00f3n muy limitada sobre la biolog\u00eda de la enfermedad. Esto hace que muchos esfuerzos se est\u00e9n centrando en descubrir nuevos factores de riesgo que por si solos o en conjunto permitan predecir la evoluci\u00f3n de la enfermedad de una forma exacta.  en este contexto, en el presente trabajo se ha tratado de evaluar los niveles de expresi\u00f3n del gen rbmx como posible factor pron\u00f3stico en c\u00e1ncer de mama humano. Resultados obtenidos recientemente en nuestro laboratorio con un gen hom\u00f3logo, rbm10, as\u00ed como una serie de antecedentes existentes en la literatura, hac\u00edan factible este objetivo. Los estudios de expresi\u00f3n se han realizado mediante  la utilizaci\u00f3n de la t\u00e9cnica de rt-pcr semicuantitativa, y los resultados obtenidos se han sido enfrentado a factores pron\u00f3sticos utilizados de forma rutinaria en c\u00e1ncer de mama. Los resultados han encontrado una fuerte correlaci\u00f3n estad\u00edstica entre tejido tumorales con elevada expresi\u00f3n del gen rmmx y tumores que presentaron baja expresi\u00f3n del gen de la endoglina humana (edg\/cd105).
