Hemos definido la autonomia como \u00abla capacidad del alumno para tomar decisiones con respecto a que tiene que hacer, como hacerlo, y como evaluarlo, en los distintos aspectos del proceso de aprendizaje\u00bb. La investigacion se llevo a cabo con estudiantes de la asignatura ingles ii (segundo curso), de la facultad de filolog\u00eda en la universidad de la laguna, a lo largo del curso academico 1.992-1.993.  el objetivo y definicion empleados implican un doble proceso. Por una parte, es necesario organizar un proceso de aprendizaje que lleve a los alumnos a ser mas autonomos. Por otra, hay que averiguar si esta mayor autonomia les hace tener un mejor rendimiento en su aprendizaje del ingles. Para hacer esto, se definieron aspectos de \u00abmanagement\u00bb y de lenguaje que se consideraban necesarios para llegar al objetivo. En el primero, estos aspectos eran i) autoevaluacion, ii) tratamiento del error, y iii) trabajo en peque\u00f1o grupo.  en el segundo, i) expresion oral, ii) expresion escrita, y de apoyo a estos, iii) gramatica, y iv) vocabulario.  estos siete aspectos se desarrollaron a traves de tecnicas y actividades, dentro y fuera del aula, para articular y dar sentido al proceso de autonomia y suponia procurar desarrollar cambios psicologicos en el alumnado, a la vez de ayudarles a adquirir herramientas que les permitiesen ejercer esta autonomia. Como medidas de control, se dise\u00f1aron instrumentos para la recogida de datos a lo largo del proceso, empleando un modelo de investigacion en la accion.  se establecieron como conclusiones principales a) que los alumnos mejoraron de modo significativo su capacidad de trabajo en los aspectos de tratamiento del error, trabajo en peque\u00f1o grupo, expresion oral y gramatica, y b)
