El problema intr\u00ednseco a la enfermedad es su car\u00e1cter asintom\u00e1tico en las fases iniciales de la misma, por lo que es fundamental un diagn\u00f3stico precoz para evitar su evoluci\u00f3n. el estudio funcional del campo visual es una de las piezas claves del diagn\u00f3stico del glaucoma, pero la perimetr\u00eda automatizada convencional detecta el da\u00f1o glaucomatoso en una fase relativamente avanzada de la enfermedad, existiendo ya da\u00f1o en la capa de fibras nerviosas de la retina y en la papila. Por ello se han desarrollado nuevas t\u00e9cnicas de estudio perim\u00e9trico, como la perimetr\u00eda de duplicaci\u00f3n de frecuencia, que mediante el estudio selectivo de subpoblaciones neuronales tratan de detectar el da\u00f1o glaucomatoso antes de que se manifieste en la perimetr\u00eda convencional.  se seleccion\u00f3 una muestra poblacional para realizar un estudio transversal de casos y controles, comparando los resultados obtenidos en normales, hipertensos oculares y glaucomatosos en la perimetr\u00eda de duplicaci\u00f3n de frecuencia. Tambi\u00e9n se compararon esos resultados con los obtenidos en esos mismos sujetos al realizar la perimetr\u00eda automatizada convencional, la perimetr\u00eda de longitud de onda corta (azul-amarillo) y la topofraf\u00eda papilar con el hrt ii (heidelberg retina tomograph).  a ra\u00edz del an\u00e1lisis de los resultados se puede concluir que la perimetr\u00eda de duplicaci\u00f3n de frecuencia es capaz de separar glaucomas de sanos, con un elevado equilibrio de sensibilidad y especificidad, que es capaz de detectar da\u00f1os en hipetensos oculares de alto riesgo, en los que la perimetr\u00eda convencional es normal, y que siendo una prueba m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida de realizar que otras perimetr\u00edas puede ser utilizada para el diagn\u00f3stico precoz, as\u00ed como para
