X b.) Rafinesque se aislaron cinco withanolidas las cuales poseen un nuevo esqueleto y cuya estructura fue determinada completamente por rmn en una y dos dimensiones, espectrometria de masas de alta resolucion y difraccion de rayos x; estos compuestos conforman una nueva familia de withanolidas a las que se ha denominado withajardinas. De igual manera, y por las mismas tecnicas espectroscopicas se identificaron de las hojas de dunalia solanacea kunth seis nuevas acnistinas.  la withajardina a es una sustancia que exhibe un potente efecto inmunopotenciador (ed50 0.007 mcg\/ml) y su mecanismo de accion parece involucrar indirectamente a la interleukina 2, pero no a la calcineurina ni al receptor de la il-2; la transformacion de los anillos  a y b en este compuesto lo inactivan completamente y de igual manera la acetilacion le hace perder sus propiedades inmunomoduladoras.
