Estos sistemas discretos pueden ser simulados de forma exacta por hardware digital, incorporando requisitos f\u00edsicos realistas sin abandonar la posibilidad de realizar computaci\u00f3n. Es por esto que muchos investigadores han querido ver en ellos una especie de puente entre modelos f\u00edsicos y modelos computacionales.  en esta tesis doctoral se estudian las caracter\u00edsticas propias de los sistemas basados en aut\u00f3matas celulares haciendo especial \u00e9nfasis en las posibilidades de implementaci\u00f3n f\u00edsica sobre dispositivos electr\u00f3nicos digitales. Se describen e implementan varios tipos de aut\u00f3matas: los aut\u00f3matas de wolfram, como los sistema sm\u00e1s sencillos capaces de exhibir comportamientos complejos a una escala de observaci\u00f3n macrosc\u00f3pica y su aplicaci\u00f3n como generadores de n\u00fameros aleatorios; y los sistemas basados en la vecindad de margolus, que permiten definir reglas de evoluci\u00f3n reversibles y que obedezcan ciertas leyes de conservaci\u00f3n. Esto nos lleva a plantear la versi\u00f3n 1d de la vecindad de margolus y los modelos de computaci\u00f3n sbm.  finalmente se aborda la cuesti\u00f3n del modelado f\u00edsico mediante aut\u00f3matas celulares, adoptando un enfoque probabil\u00edstico para la obtenci\u00f3n de magnitudes continuas a partir del promediado de variables de estado discretas, y desarrolla el m\u00e9todo be-pe para el dise\u00f1o de reglas locales que, en el l\u00edmite macrosc\u00f3pico, tiendan a un comportamiento definido. En el caso de la distribuci\u00f3n de potencial en una regi\u00f3n bidimensional con condiciones de contorno dadas, el m\u00e9todo be-pe deriva en el aut\u00f3mata celular rnr, que en el l\u00edmite macrosc\u00f3pico ofrece los mismos resultados que la resoluci\u00f3n anal\u00edtica.
