Ujue <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La s-adenosilmetionina (adomet) es el principal donante de grupos metilo en el metabolismo celular, participa en la s\u00edntesis de poliaminas y es precursor del glutation en el h\u00edgado. La s\u00edntesis de adomet, a partir de la metionina y el atp, est\u00e1 catalizada por la enzima metionina adenosiltransferasa (mat). En mam\u00edferos hay dos genes que codifican para la enzima mat:mat1a, que se expresa principalmente en el h\u00edgado adulto, y mat2a, expresado en todas las c\u00e9lulas del organismo, as\u00ed como en el h\u00edgado fetal, y que reemplaza al gen mat1a en la transformaci\u00f3n neopl\u00e1sica del h\u00edgado. Las propiedades cin\u00e9ticas y reguladoras de los productos de ambos genes determinan el contenido celular de adomet, siendo \u00e9ste mayor cuando el gen expresado es mat1a. la s\u00edntesis de adomet est\u00e1 alterada en el h\u00edgado cirr\u00f3tico humano, as\u00ed como en diferentes modelos experimentales de da\u00f1o hep\u00e1tico. La administraci\u00f3n de adomet a pacientes cirr\u00f3ticos y a roedores en modelos de da\u00f1o hep\u00e1tico y de carcinog\u00e9nesis qu\u00edmica, mejora el curso de la enfermedad o previene el desarrollo de tumores, aunque los mecanismos moleculares de estos efectos no son del todo conocidos.  esta tesis eval\u00faa la implicaci\u00f3n de mecanismos epigen\u00e9ticos (metilaci\u00f3n del dna y acetilaci\u00f3n de histonas) en el control de la expresi\u00f3n espec\u00edfica de tejido de los geneds mat1a y mat2a, as\u00ed como la expresi\u00f3n de \u00e9ste \u00faltimo en los hepatocitos en proliferaci\u00f3n.
