Esta tesis doctoral ha profundizado en diversos aspectos no resueltos como la descriptci\u00f3n de su mecanismo catal\u00edtico y las relaciones estructura-funci\u00f3n o la distribuci\u00f3n subcelular de la enzima. Adem\u00e1s la presente tesis ha combinado diferentes t\u00e9cnicas, bien bioinformaticas, bioqu\u00edmicas y de biolog\u00eda celular y molecular. los resultados se encuentran resumidos en los siguientes p\u00e1rrafos.  los resultados de la comparaci\u00f3n de las gluc\u00f3geno (almid\u00f3n sintasas y las gluc\u00f3geno sintasas indican que adem\u00e1s de catalizar la misma reacci\u00f3n, la s\u00edntesis del alfa(1-4)-glucano, comparten caracter\u00edsticas similares as\u00ed como zonas de estructura secundaria predicha hom\u00f3logas. Por lo tanto podr\u00edan incluirse en una misma \u00absuperfamilia\u00bb.  adem\u00e1s se detect\u00f3 que las gluc\u00f3geno (almid\u00f3n) sintasas que arqueobacterias son filogen\u00e9ticamente cercanas a las glucogeno sintasas de hongos y mam\u00edferos. a parte de ser similares a nivel de secuencia y estructura secundaria predicha presentan una especificidad de substrato parecida y un tama\u00f1o m\u00e1s reducido. por tanto son buenos modelos para estudiar a nivel estructural tanto las gluc\u00f3geno sintasas como las gluc\u00f3geno (almid\u00f3n) sintasas.  tambi\u00e9n se ha demostrado que el residuo glu-510 de la sintasa muscular humana (hsmgs) es esencial para la cat\u00e1lisis y que el glu-518 juega un papel importante en ella, aunque secundario. Proponemos que los equivalentes de estos residuos en las glicosiltransferasas de las familias, 4,5 y 15 tambi\u00e9n son fundamentales en el mecanismo de cat\u00e1lisis.  la gluc\u00f3geno sintasa muscular de mam\u00edferos presenta una localizaci\u00f3n subcelular regulada entre el n\u00facleo y el citoplasma.
