Todos ellos son bacterias gram positivas formadoras de endosporas y halotolerantes. Para caracterizar las cepas se ha hecho un estudio de taxonom\u00eda polif\u00e1sica incluyendo t\u00e9cnicas fenot\u00edpicas, genot\u00edpicas (determinaci\u00f3n del contenido en g+c mol%; hibridaci\u00f3n dna-dna y rapd) y filogen\u00e9ticas (secuenciaci\u00f3n del gen del rnar 16s). Los resultados de dicho estudio indican que nuestros microorganismos est\u00e1n relacionados con el g\u00e9nero bacillus aunque entre ellos se pueden distinguir 4 grupos fenot\u00edpicos y genot\u00edpicos de los cuales dos podr\u00edan asignarse a la especie bacillus subtillis; los dos restantes posiblemente constituyan nuevos taxa de bacterias esporuladas.  todas las bacterias de este estudio sintetizan surfactantes de potente actividad (semejante a la de la surfactina comercializada). Las cepas identificadas como bacillus subtilis los producen con mayor rendimiento que la cepa control. la mayor\u00eda de estos tensioactivos son polip\u00e9ptidos c\u00edclicos de la familia de la surfactina; las distintas cepas sintetizan mezclas con distintos porcentajes de surfactinas hom\u00f3logas que teniendo la misma composici\u00f3n de amino\u00e1cidos var\u00edan en la longitud del \u00e1cido graso unido al p\u00e9ptido c\u00edclico. sin embargo uno de los grupos taxon\u00f3micos sintetizan un surfactante parcialmente relacionado con la surfactina y la fengicina, seg\u00fan se desprende del estudio de los genes nrps (non-ribosomal peptide y synthetase).  en este estudio se ha comprobado que el an\u00e1lisis de las regiones g\u00e9nicas correspondientes a los dominios de adenilaci\u00f3n y tiolaci\u00f3n de las p\u00e9ptidos sintetasas (genes nrps) puede ser utilizado como t\u00e9cnica de tipado molecular de estas bacterias y, por tanto, su utilidad
