Se ha utilizado como variable explicativa del rendimiento lector, tanto en buenos como en malos lectores. Sin embargo, estudios recientes, representados entre otros por los trabajos de siegel, han puesto en cuestion esta relacion entre c.I. Y rendimiento en lectura. El proposito de esta tesis ha sido precisamente comprobar en que medida el c.I. Discrimina entre buenos y malos lectores. Tras realizar las investigaciones oportunas se comprobo que, en los distintos grupos de c.I.  establecidos, el rendimiento en la lectura de buenos y malos lectores fue similar. Asimismo, las diferencias grupales se encontraron en variables de naturaleza psicolinguistica como la longitud, la lexicalidad y la frecuencia silabica posicional. Por otra parte, se lleva a cabo una interpretacion de los resultados desde un modelo interactivo del procesamiento de la lectura. En resumen, el presente trabajo supone una confirmacion de la linea argumental mantenida por siegel y colaboradores respecto a la poca significacion del c.I.
