Los defectos aparecen en teor\u00edas de campos donde ocurre una ruptura espont\u00e1nea de simetr\u00eda, y son unos objetos extensos de larga duraci\u00f3n que consisten en regiones especiales del espacio tiempo que tienen una m\u00e1s alta concentraci\u00f3n de energ\u00eda, carga, o ambas. aparecen en diversos campos de la f\u00edsica, como por ejemplo, en teor\u00eda de supercuerdas, cosmolog\u00eda o materia condensada.  en algunas teor\u00edas, existen argumentos topol\u00f3gicos que predicen la existencia de efectos topol\u00f3gicos. Adem\u00e1s de \u00e9stos, existe tambi\u00e9n la posibilidad de que se formen defectos no-topol\u00f3gicos, cuya existencia y comportamiento no se conoce a priori, y es necesario estudiar su din\u00e1mica para aprender sus propiedades.  la tesis comienza con una introducci\u00f3n donde se describen los defectos topol\u00f3gicos y no-topol\u00f3gicos en diferentes contextos, como por ejemplo las cuerdas de nielson-olesen, o las cuerdas semilocales.  en el siguiente cap\u00edtulo pasamos a describir un tipo de defecto topol\u00f3gico; los monoplos globales o(3).  \u00e9stos tienen unas propiedades verdaderamente curiosas: aunque se demuestra en este trabajo que son estables frente a perturbaciones infinitesimales, una deformaci\u00f3n finita del monopolo esf\u00e9ricamente sim\u00e9trico puede llevar al sistema a decaer al vac\u00edo din\u00e1micamente.  la din\u00e1mica de los monopolos globales es importante tambi\u00e9n en el contexto de las cuerdas semilocales, ya que las cuerdas semilocales terminan en monopolos globales. Una posible descripci\u00f3n de las cuerdas semilocales viene dada al embeber cuerdas de nielsen-olesen en un cierto l\u00edmite del modelo standard electrod\u00e9bil: espec\u00edficamente, el l\u00edmite en el que los campos de gauge su(2) se desacoplan. En el siguiente cap\u00edtulo, relajamos ese l\u00edmite para estudiar la existencia y persistencia de una red de segmentos de cuerdas electrod\u00e9biles.
