Tras revisar el estado de la cuesti\u00f3n, y proponer la adopci\u00f3n de una metodolog\u00eda comunicativa frente a la ense\u00f1anza normativa de la lengua, comienza por establecer una fundamentaci\u00f3n te\u00f3rica para luego centrarse en el estudio de los elementos que intervienen en desarrollo de la competencia lectora, siguiendo la taxonom\u00eda de los estudios sobre el desarrollo de la competencia comunicativa y sus cinco subcompetencias: la competencia ling\u00ed\u00bc\u00edstica, la competencia discursiva, la competencia estrat\u00e9gica, la competencia socioling\u00ed\u00bc\u00edstica y la competencia sociocultural. El trabajo analiza el efecto que tienen los m\u00e9todos, los materiales did\u00e1cticos y las distintas pr\u00e1cticas docentes sobre los h\u00e1bitos y estrategias intelectuales de los alumnos mediante cinco investigaciones emp\u00edricas: la \u00abencuesta sobre el perfiel de los estudiantes de \u00e1rabe en espa\u00f1a\u00bb, el \u00abexperimento sobre lectura sin grafemas auxiliares\u00bb, el \u00abexperimento sobre los criterios para la ense\u00f1anza de la morfolog\u00eda del verbo\u00bb, el \u00abexperimento sobre letras m\u00e1s problem\u00e1ticas del alifato para el alumnado espa\u00f1ol\u00bb y el \u00abestudio de caso sobre el uso de las estrategias de lectura\u00bb. Los datos extra\u00eddos sirven para extraer una serie de implicaciones did\u00e1cticas que se proponen a la reflexi\u00f3n de los profesores. Tambi\u00e9n se presentan en anexo los prototipos de una serie de materiales did\u00e1cticos, listos para su utilizaci\u00f3n en clase, que posibilitan la aplicaci\u00f3n pr\u00e1ctica de estas
