Los resultados tambi\u00e9n sugieren que la cabeza globular de la hn participa en la promoci\u00f3n de fusi\u00f3n.  por otro lado, est\u00e1 establecido que en los pasos iniciales del ciclo v\u00edrico tanto la hn como la f sufren una serie de cambios conformacionales, que en el caso concreto del ndv se desconoce su naturaleza exacta. El primero de estos cambios ocurre cuando la prote\u00edna hn se une al receptor. Tras un an\u00e1lisis con la t\u00e9cnica del bis-ans, se ha visto que gangli\u00f3sidos de cerebro bovino y el gd1a determinan un cambio conformacional en la prote\u00edna hn que conlleva a la exposici\u00f3n de regiones hidrof\u00f3bicas de la prote\u00edna. este cambio es m\u00e1ximo a 37\u00c2\u00bac y a ph 5, no detect\u00e1ndose a 4\u00c2\u00bac.  al igual que ocurre con otros paramixovirus, los \u00e1cidos si\u00e1licos son indispensables para la fusi\u00f3n del ndv con la c\u00e9lula hospedadora. Estos monosac\u00e1ridos \u00e1cidos pueden encontrarse tanto en glicoprote\u00ednas n-glicosiladas como en glicol\u00edpidos de la membrana de la c\u00e9lulas hospedadora. El ndv reconoce gangli\u00f3sidos como el gm3, gm2, gm1, gd1a, gd1b y gt1b, por lo que esta uni\u00f3n no es altamente espec\u00edfica.  adem\u00e1s de la fusi\u00f3n directa con la membrana, el ndv utiliza la endocitosis como v\u00eda secundaria de entrada en la c\u00e9lula hospedadora. Esta endocitosis se encuentra mediada por ves\u00edculas rodeadas de clatrina.
