Estas ldl inducen asimismo un incremento de la sintesis de la proteina correspondiente al receptor b de pdgf a las 8 horas de un 600%. El empleo de conejos sometidos a una dieta rica en colesterol (2%), provoca en los mismos la aparicion temprana de lesiones ateromatosas a las 4 semanas. La intima de la arteria aorta de estos conejos presenta unos elevados niveles del mensajero del receptor de igf-i. Esta expresion elevada es debida en su mayor parte a las celulas de musculo liso, como lo pone de manifiesto el empleo de anticuerpos especificos frente a estas celulas y frente a macrofagos, y la hibridacion in situ con sonda especifica para actina de musculo liso. Las zonas de la media en contacto con las lesiones ateromatosas muestra asimismo un incremento en los niveles del mensajero del receptor de igf-i, y en los acumulos citoplasmicos de colesterol, con lo que se asemejan a las celulas de musculo liso de la intima.
