Como muestras de referencia se han usado montmorillonitas saturadas en li(i) y na(i), partiendo de dos muestras diferentes y bien conocidas, una estandar, wyoming, y otra nacional (almeria), trancos. Dichas muestras, una vez saturadas con el cation correspondiente, se han sometido a tratamientos termicos e hidrotermicos.  las tecnicas de estudio empleadas han sido las consideradas necesarias en cada muestra. Asi, se han realizado medidas de drx, atd-tg, irtf, meb-edx, adsorcion volumetrica de gases, mas-nmr y exafs.  la evolucion del cation interlaminar en las muestras estudiadas depende tanto de la naturaleza del mismo como del tratamiento al que se someten dichas muestras. Respecto a la que contiene li(i), se ha concluido que su comportamiento en los ciclos colapso-reexpansion-colapso es altamente reversible, segun se pone de manifiesto a traves del estudio del grado de hidratacion y de la capacidad de cambio.  en las muestras intercaladas con lutecio y tratadas termicamente, el cation evoluciona desde un entorno acuocomplejo (temperatura ambiente) a un entorno oxido (700 c), pasando por un estado de transicion a 500 c entre oxido e hidroxido. Ello, ademas de fijar el cation interlaminar, produce un aumento en la generacion de protones, lo que justifica su aplicacion en catalisis. Al tratar estas muestras hidrotermicamente a 400 c, el entorno alrededor del lu(iii) evoluciona hasta la generacion cuantitativa de disilicato de lutecio, segun se ha puesto de manifiesto por exafs. Ello abre nuevas expectativas en la resolucion del problema del almacenamiento definitivo de radionucleidos.  en cuanto a las muestras saturadas con un precursor oligomerico de al13, al ser calentadas
