Las lesiones se detectaron cuando la planta presentaba el 1er. Par de hojas verdaderas, como decoloraciones de la peridermis que evolucionaron hacia manchas hundidas, durante el engrosamiento de la raiz la peridermis se rompe originando cavidades que pueden necrosarse.  se estudiaron 14 hibridos y variedades mostrandose todos ellos susceptibles al cs y no repitiendose su comportamiento varietal durante los 2 a\u00f1os de experiencias.  raices cultivadas en suelo esteril mostraron un porcentaje de cs significativamente menor que las cultivadas en suelo no esteril, indicando que el agente \/s causal \/es del cs se encuentra en suelo y tiene una naturaleza biotica.  en aislamientos de tejidos sintomaticos se identifican las siguientes especies pythium intermedium, p. Violae, p. Sulcatum, p. Ultimum y p. Sylvaticum, en cavidades necrosadas aparecen fusarium sp., Sclerotium sp.  considerandose organismos secundarios. La poblacion de pythium en suelo aumenta en las parcelas cultivadas, encontrandose la poblacion mayoritaria en los 20 cm. De la capa superior del suelo, siendo las especies identificadas p. Intermedium, p. Oligandrum, p.  irregulare, p. Ultimum, p. Sylvaticum y p.
