Nunca antes ni despu\u00e9s, en la historia de la m\u00fasica, encontramos un compositor con una repercusi\u00f3n cultural de tan marcado car\u00e1cter multidisciplinar.  esta multidisciplinaridad viene dada por la propia concepci\u00f3n de wagner del drama oper\u00edstico como obra de arte total (gesamtkunstwerk), concebida como fusi\u00f3n de elementos musicales y extramusicales dentro de un nuevo concepto art\u00edstico. Al igual que ocurriera en otras capitales europeas, la recepci\u00f3n de la obra de ricahrd wagner en Madrid se caracteriza por una fuerte incidencia social y se documenta no s\u00f3lo en la m\u00fasica sino tambi\u00e9n en otras manifestaciones culturales: en la est\u00e9tica del arte (musical y extramusical), en las artes pl\u00e1sticas (particularmente en la escenograf\u00eda y en la pintura) y en la literatura (especialmente en lo que se refiere a la narrativa y a la l\u00edrica).  la recepci\u00f3n wagneriana en la capital se documenta ya a finales del siglo xix, pero es a partir de 1900 cuando el wagnerismo se presenta, al igual que en el resto de europa, como un fen\u00f3meno social consolidado que, progresivamente, alcanzar\u00e1 niveles de aut\u00e9ntica apoteosis hacia 1911, a\u00f1o de nacimiento de la asociaci\u00f3n wagneriana de Madrid. La enorme incidencia social se manifiesta particularmente a trav\u00e9s de la creciente presencia gr\u00e1fica e inconogr\u00e1fica del compositor en la prensa peri\u00f3dica y a trav\u00e9s la publicaci\u00f3n de numerosas traducciones al castellano de su obra, de las que esta tesis ofrece una exhaustiva catalogaci\u00f3n, hasta ahora inexistente.
