El potencial que supone abrir este nuevo rango de frecuencias a trav\u00e9s de la espectroscopia molecular ha comenzado a ser explotado con el infrared space observatory (iso). La sensibilidad de la instrumentaci\u00f3n embarcada en dicho sat\u00e9lite no tiene comparaci\u00f3n alguna con las escasa misiones espaciales, o a bordo de aviones, realizadas con anterioridad a su lanzamiento.  en particular, casi todo el rango operativo de iso en el infrarrojo lejano no hab\u00eda sido explorado. El espectro en el infrarrojo lejano de las fuentes m\u00e1s representativas dela galaxia era desconocido y los principales emisores de la radiaci\u00f3n, las mol\u00e9culas, estaban por identificar. Las observaciones en el infrarrojo lejano est\u00e1n especialmente indicadas para el estudio del gas caliente en las nubes moleculares del medio interestelar y en el interior de las evolturas circunestelares alrdedor de estrellas evolucionadas. Algunas de estas fuentes, sgr b2 en el centro gal\u00e1ctico y las proto-nebulosas planetarias (p.Ej. Crl 2688, crl 618 y ngc 7027), constituyen uno de los objetos m\u00e1s pardigm\u00e1ticos en nuestra comprensi\u00f3n de la complejidad qu\u00edmica de la galaxia. muchas de las especies moleculares detectadas en este trabajo (h2o, oh, ch+, c3 o c4) son esenciales para el estudio de las condiciones f\u00edsicas y qu\u00edmicas del medio interestelar y circunestelar. La abundancia del vapor de agua, por ejemplo, puede determinar si se formar\u00e1n estrellas durante el colapso gravitatorio de una nube molecular. Otro ejemplo son las cadenas lineas ricas en carbono, que pueden ser los \u00abesqueletos\u00bb a partir de los cuales se formen las grandes mol\u00e9culas carbonadas responsables de buena parte de la
