Esta tesis aborda varios problemas en la segmentaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes de resonancia magn\u00e9tica.  en el primer cap\u00edtulo se comparan dos variantes del algoritmo em: la implementaci\u00f3n cl\u00e1sica y otra que emplea los histogramas de la imagen. Al tiempo que ambos m\u00e9todos obtienen los mismos resultados, mediante el segundo tiempo de c\u00e1lculo se reduce enormemente, si bien se pierde la posibilidad de emplear la informaci\u00f3n de vecindario de los v\u00f3xeles.  el segundo cap\u00edtulo estudia la reproducibilidad de ocho m\u00e9todos de segmentaci\u00f3n que modelan el efecto de volumen parcial e incluyen informaci\u00f3n espacial en la segmentaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes de resonancia magn\u00e9tica. Adem\u00e1s, investiga la posible existencia de sesgo con el uso de patrones estad\u00edsticos para la segmentaci\u00f3n de im\u00e1genes de sujetos como alteraciones anat\u00f3micas. En este cap\u00edtulo se identifican los m\u00e9todos que mostraron una mejor reproducibilidad y se muestra la utilidad del uso de patrones estad\u00edsticos, junto con sus posibles fuentes de sesgo.  en el tercer cap\u00edtulo se propone un nuevo algoritmo para la correcci\u00f3n del artefacto de iluminaci\u00f3n que mostr\u00f3 un mejor comportamiento que los m\u00e9todos m\u00e1s conocidos, tanto en im\u00e1genes sint\u00e9ticas como reales.  finalmente, los algoritmos desarrollados e implementados se han empleado en aplicaciones cl\u00ednicas, fundamentalmente para la investigaci\u00f3n de la esquizofrenia. La integraci\u00f3n de estos m\u00e9todos permiti\u00f3 la obtenci\u00f3n de hallazgos importantes para la comunidad de investigadores en esquizofrenia que se han publicado en diversas revistas
