En ambos sexos, las celulas c se concentran en las zonas centrales del lobulo tiroideo. El volumen medio de la celula c no se modifica ni con la edad ni con el sexo.  el numero de celulas c se incrementa con la edad de forma mas precoz y rapida en las hembras que en los machos, alcanzando ambos valores similares a los 15 meses.
