El sistema funciona en dos etapas diferentes que finalmente dan como resultado una predicci\u00f3n de funci\u00f3n para una secuencia problema dad:  1) primero son seleccionados peque\u00f1os fragmentos pept\u00eddicos comunes entre la prote\u00edna problema y otras prote\u00ednas de las bases de datos, los cuales podr\u00edan actuar, como piezas modulares de la evoluci\u00f3n para la construcci\u00f3n de p\u00e9ptidos funcionales y a los que llamamos protomotifs.  2) y en una segunda etapa la funci\u00f3n es asignada a la prote\u00edna, bas\u00e1ndose en correlaciones entre los protomotifs encontrados y las anotaciones funcionales de las secuencias de donde proceden y contenidas en la base de datos de prote\u00ednas swiss-prot o en la de referencias bibliogr\u00e1ficas medline. Adem\u00e1s, tambi\u00e9n son usadas ontolog\u00edas para definir mejor la predicci\u00f3n, las cuales organizan jer\u00e1rquicamente las funciones encontradas.  la potencia de anagram radica en que siempre encuentra alg\u00fan tipo de similitud entre la secuencia analizada y otras prote\u00ednas con informaci\u00f3n funcional en las bases de datos, aunque otros m\u00e9todos tradicionales no sean capaces de dar resultados significativos.  por todo ello, anagram puede ser usado para obtener informaci\u00f3n en experimentos de definici\u00f3n de funci\u00f3n, mutag\u00e9nesis dirigida y dise\u00f1o de medicamentos. el sistema ya ha sido ensayado con conjuntos amplios y diversos de secuencias de prot\u00e9\u00ednas, dando unos resultados muy positivos con todas ellas (p\u00e9rez et al., Comp. Funct.
