Las transformaciones afectan a la producci\u00f3n, la distribuci\u00f3n y la exhibici\u00f3n en todos sus \u00e1mbitos. Este g\u00e9nero presenta una casu\u00edstica espec\u00edfica y una entidad propia.  algunos de los fen\u00f3menos m\u00e1s interesantes analizados son: el crecimiento de la producci\u00f3n desde el punto de vista cuantitativo, la proyecci\u00f3n y difusi\u00f3n alcanzadas, el fen\u00f3meno d ela proliferaic\u00f3n de fetivales especializados, la incursi\u00f3n de las tecnolog\u00edas digitales, el trascendente papel desempe\u00f1ado por algunos canales de televisi\u00f3n y los nuevos cauces de distribuci\u00f3n que empezaron a abrirse a finales de los noventa.  entre los aspectos m\u00e1s rese\u00f1ables observados, se encuentran la descentralizaci\u00f3n de los foros de exhibici\u00f3n y el nuevo campo abierto a trav\u00e9s de los nuevos formatos profesionales de v\u00eddeo digital que facilitan la producci\u00f3n. Sin embargo, el cortometraje se enfrenta a unas dificultades que vienen dadas por su car\u00e1cter no comercial, lo que se traduce en serios problemas para el desarrollo de proyectos, la distribuci\u00f3n de las obras, los cauces minoritairos para llegar a un p\u00fablico -que por otra parte cada vez es mayor- o el hecho de que gran n\u00famero de realizadores se vean obligados a
