Las determinaciones hormonales se realizaron por radioinmunoensayo.  la exendina-4 estimula de modo dosis-dependiente la secreci\u00f3n de insulina y tal efecto se manifiesta a una concentraci\u00f3n de glucosa similar a la glucemia del diab\u00e9tico tipo 2. Por otra parte, inhibe la secreci\u00f3n de glucag\u00f3n.  en el diab\u00e9tico, ambos efectos, contribuir\u00edan a normalizar el metabolismo de los hidratos de carbono y, en consecuencia la glucemia.  la exendina-4 tambi\u00e9n estimula la secreci\u00f3n de somatostatina.  en virtud de esta combinaci\u00f3n de efectos cabe pensar que el efecto glucagonost\u00e1tico dela exendina-4 se ejerza directamente o sea mediado, de modo paracrino, por el aumento intrainsular de insulina y\/o somatostatina.  formalmente cabe destacar, que la exendina-4 no estimula la secreci\u00f3n de insulina cuando la concentraci\u00f3n en el medio perfusor es baja.
