Una ventaja a\u00f1adida de esta herramienta es que, dada su naturaleza, el modelo de elementos finitos puede recubrirse totalmente con bandas extensom\u00e9tricas virtuales, de modo que es posible disponer de resultados \u00abexperimentales\u00bb en cualquier lugar del modelo, sin las limitaciones normalmente asociadas a la extensometr\u00eda el\u00e9ctrica.  asimismo, se demuestra la utilidad del elemento banda extensom\u00e9trica virtual para llegar a definir una metodolog\u00eda que estudie el comportamiento a fatiga de elementos mec\u00e1nicos, basada en el m\u00e9todo de las tensiones y capaz de considerar la direcci\u00f3n de las tensiones en estados multiaxiales y de solventar las limitaciones que presentan los actuales c\u00f3digos de elementos finitos en la simulaci\u00f3n de
