Pero s\u00f3lo en contadas ocasiones se hab\u00eda estudiado y por t\u00e9cnicas tradicionales la actividad microbiana en las piscinas nucleares. en las aguas radiactivas de las mismas y de gran pureza se hac\u00eda dif\u00edcil pensar en la presencia de los microorganismos y mucho menos en sus interacciones con los materiales y con su entorno. S\u00f3lo en contadas excepciones, en reactores nucleares en experimentaci\u00f3n o en casos catastr\u00f3ficos como chernobil (ucrania), o three mile island (usa) se han llevado a cabo estudios microbianos y en general muy someros. En esta tesis se confirma la existencia de vida microbiana en piscinas nucleares. Para ello se han aislado y caracterizado por t\u00e9cnicas de microbiolog\u00eda molecular (pcr, dgge, secuenciaci\u00f3n) los microorganismos presentes fundamentalmente en las piscinas de almacenamiento de combustible nuclear gastado. Se ha encontrado que ralstonia picketii es la bacteria dominante en el sistema, observ\u00e1ndose, adem\u00e1s, por microscop\u00eda de epifluorescencia, que el 99% de las bacterias planct\u00f3nicas existentes en el agua no son cultivables. Se ha identificado y se ha analizado el bioensuciamiento formado en las paredes de  acero inoxidable austen\u00edtico de las piscinas nucleares, detect\u00e1ndose una concentraci\u00f3n muy alta de radionucleidos en la biopel\u00edcula. Finalmente, se propone una metodolog\u00eda espec\u00edfica para el an\u00e1lisis microbiol\u00f3gico de aguas radiactivas y oligotr\u00f3ficas.  palabras clave  microorganismo extrem\u00f3filo,
