<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Los modelos de cajas se han utilizado en numerosos ocasiones para estudiar la circulaci\u00f3n residual de las r\u00edas bajas,utilizando para ello el campo termohalino(temperatura y salinidad)como trazador mediante las ecuaciones de conservaci\u00f3n.En esta tesis se utilizan los modelos de cajas como herramientas de c\u00e1lcula para estudiar la r\u00eda de vigo.Tras una introducci\u00f3n a las masas de agua que se distribuyen en la costa occidental gallega y al afloramiento costero,el proceso oceanogr\u00e1fico m\u00e1s importante que efacta a las r\u00edas bajas, se describen los entresijos de los modelos de cajas:su geotr\u00eda,los balances de propiedad que se les aplican , las parametrizaciones para las fuertes y los sumideros de las ecuaciones de balance de propiedad, etc.Posteriormente se discute la relaci\u00f3n entre modelos de cajas y m\u00e9todos inversos y se presentan al modelo oerfim(optimun estuarine residual fluxes with a multiparameter inverse metrhod),un modelo que combina balances termohalinos con balances biogeoqu\u00edmicos para obtener una soluci\u00f3n \u00f3ptima.Como ejemplo pr\u00e1ctico el oerfim se aplica a la r\u00eda de vigo.A continuaci\u00f3n,y por primera vez, se dise\u00f1a y aplica un modelo de cajas para estudiar la circulaci\u00f3n residual de la r\u00eda de vigo desde un punto de vista tridimensional y no estacionario y bajo la exigencia de obtener coeficientes de mezcla no negativos.Los resultados del modelo tridimensional se correlaacionan con los distintos forzamientos de la circulaci\u00f3n residual,para estudiar la din\u00e1mica que rige la circulaci\u00f3n residual.Finalmente,tambi\u00e9n se han desarrollado los algoritmos necesarios para pasar de coordenadas geogr\u00e1ficas a coordenadas utm (y viceversa),algoritmos muy \u00fatiles enel c\u00e1lculo de las geometr\u00edas de las cajas y en el interpolaci\u00f3n tridimensional utilizada en el
