La principal conclusi\u00f3n es que lo que impide la paz es la existencia misma de dos poderes. si la cuesti\u00f3n central en la obra de marsilio responde al principal problema filos\u00f3fico medieval sobre el poder -el de la relaci\u00f3n entre los dos poderes medievales, el imperio y el papado-, la respuesta dada en ella es extensiva a la relaci\u00f3n gen\u00e9rica entre el poder temporal y el poder eclesi\u00e1stico, m\u00e1s all\u00e1 del contexto hist\u00f3rico en el que se suscita. Para marsilio el aut\u00e9ntico problema filos\u00f3fico acerca de la naturaleza y fines del poder en la sociedad medieval -cristiana- no es tanto el de definir y regular una relaci\u00f3n de subordinaci\u00f3n entre lo pol\u00edtico y lo religioso, cuanto el de establecer la fundamentaci\u00f3n racional del poder temporal. No es una cuesti\u00f3n de jerarqu\u00eda en este mundo, sino de incompatibilidad conceptual. marsilio cree que la lucha entre los dos poderes no tiene soluci\u00f3n sin suprimir uno de ellos y elimina el poder espiritual.  este planteamiento filos\u00f3fico rompe con el dualismo medieval e implica una actitud nueva ante el poder. Mientras que los defensores del poder secular, cr\u00edticos con la teocracia pontificia, se hab\u00edan contentado con adoptar una posici\u00f3n filos\u00f3fica defensiva, marsilio pasa a la ofensiva y decide legitimar el poder pol\u00edtico desde una base filos\u00f3fica distinta, que lo haga realmente inexpugnable por las tesis del poder temporal del papado.
