Los agregados celulares del cuerpo carot\u00eddeo, y no los de la medula adrenal o el ganglio cervical superior, inducen recuperaci\u00f3n funcional a largo plazo cuando son implantados en el estriado de las ratas hemiparkinsonianas.  2. La recuperaci\u00f3n observada no se debe s\u00f3lo a la liberaci\u00f3n de dopamina por el implante de cuerpo carot\u00eddeo, sino sobre todod a un efecto tr\u00f3fico del trasplante sobre la v\u00eda nigroestriatal dopamin\u00e9rgica intr\u00ednseca, induciendo la ramificaci\u00f3n ax\u00f3nica responsable del alto grado de reinervaci\u00f3n detectado en el estriado de los animales recuperados tras el implante.  3. Las c\u00e9lulas gl\u00f3micas del cuerpo carot\u00eddeo presentan elevados niveles de expresi\u00f3n del potente factor dopaminotr\u00f3fico gdnf, que se mantienen en los implantes realizados. No se ha detectado con la misma t\u00e9cnica (rat\u00f3n nulo heterocig\u00f3tico gdnf\/lacz +\/- y ensayo x-gal) la expresi\u00f3n de gdnf en la m\u00e9dula adrenal, el ganglio cervical superior o en los trasplante realizados a partir de estos tejidos.  4. La potente acci\u00f3n dopaminotr\u00f3fica del gdnf secretado por el trasplante de agregados celulares del cuerpo carot\u00eddeo podr\u00eda promover la reinervaci\u00f3n dopamin\u00e9rgica del estriado y estimular la propia supervivencia del implante.  5. El cuerpo carot\u00eddeo, aunque contiene y secreta grandes cantidades de dopamina, no expresa el transportador de dopamina de alta afinidad (dat). esta caracter\u00edstica confiere al cuerpo carot\u00eddeo resistencia frente al tratamiento con mptp (neurot\u00f3xico que causa la degeneraci\u00f3n espec\u00edfica de las neuronas dopamin\u00e9rgica de la sustancia negra, utilizado para
