La metodolog\u00eda empleada parte de la propia obra de arte, como elemento documental primario, estudiandola a la luz de la documentacion hallada, fundamentalmente, en archivos locales.  la aportacion fundamental es la elaboracion de un extenso catalogo, tanto de las obras conservadas, como de las detectadas documentalmente, en 224 pueblos, lo que totaliza cerca de 800 retablos.  se incluyen cuadros de analisis estadistico comparativo en secuencia cronologica, una vez hecho el estudio detallado de cada uno de ellos, asi como el establecimiento de una tipolog\u00eda con su evolucion estilistica; estudio de la escultura, iconografia (con estudios estadisticos) y policromia; definicion de talleres y contribucion artistica de los diferentes artifices, de los que se
