Las monocapas flotantes se transfieren a distintos tipos de substratos solidos para llevar a cabo su estudio espectroscopico, asi como a electrodos interdigitales para evaluar las propiedades semiconductoras de las sustancias. La informacion fundamental obtenida en los procesos de caracterizacion se empleo posteriormente en la deteccion de diversos polucionantes atmosfericos (no2, humo de tabaco). Las medidas espectroscopicas demostraron que la interaccion entre la molecula gaseosa y la macromolecula organica se producia de forma indirecta, a traves del metal situado en el centro del macrociclo. Por otra parte, la conductividad de las peliculas aumenta de forma considerable cuando estas son expuestas a atmosferas en las que el gas no2 se encuentra presente en bajas concentraciones. La posibilidad de aplicar estas propiedades en el desarrollo de un sensor ambiental se ha evaluado.
