Una vez descritos los ritmos circadianos en las concentraciones extracelulares de neurotransmisores de la corteza prefrontal se estudi\u00f3 su regulaci\u00f3n por cambios en el fotoper\u00edodo, puesto que la luz es el principal sincronizador ex\u00f3geno de los ritmos circadianos, y de la melatonina, que es la principal eferencia hormonal del n\u00facleo supraquiasm\u00e1tico. se estudiaron tambi\u00e9n los efectos del envejecimiento sobre estos ritmos cricadianos as\u00ed como sobre los ritmos circadianos de neurotransmisores en estriado y n\u00facleo accumbens, \u00e1reas tambi\u00e9n inervadas por las neuronas dopamin\u00e9rgicas del mesenc\u00e9falo, cuyos ritmos circadianos han sido previamente estudiados en nuestro laboratorio. Para ello se realizaron experimentos de microdi\u00e1lisis durante un ciclo 6h oscuridad: 12h luz:6h oscuridad en ratas macho wistar de 2-4 meses de edad. En el grupo experimental en que se modific\u00f3 de fotoperiodo, los ciclos de oscuridad:luz fueron de 6h oscuridad:18h luz y de  24h oscuridad. En el grupo experimental en que se estudi\u00f3 el efecto de la melatonina, se perfundi\u00f3 melatonina 200 y 500um desde 1 hora antes del inicio del periodo de luz hasta el final del experimento. Y en el grupo experimental en que se estudi\u00f3 el efecto del envejecimiento, se utilizaron ratas de dos grupos de edad: j\u00f3venes (2-4 meses de edad) y viejas (23-25 meses de edad). Las perfusiones se realizaron con lcrs a un flujo de 1.5 ul\/min y se recogieron muestras cada 30 minutos.  el glutamato y el gaba se analizaron por hplc acoplada a detecci\u00f3n fluorom\u00e9trica, y la dopamina, el hva y la acetilcolina se analizaron mediante hplc acoplada a detecci\u00f3n electroqu\u00edmica.
