Su infeccion supone un riesgo para el enfermo y un coste a\u00f1adido al tratamiento. No existe un tratamiento eficaz para estas infecciones.  en el trabajo se propone un sistema de desinfeccion de reservorios implantables basado en la infusion de una mezcla de formaldehido y etanol en la luz de los cateteres.  se ha ensayado \u00abin vitro\u00bb e \u00abin vivo\u00bb en animales de experimentacion, estudiando tanto la efectividad del sistema de desinfeccion como la toxicidad derivada del formol infundido al medio interno y la toxicidad demostrable por las alteraciones histologicas sistemicas y locales (alrededor del cateter).  el desinfectante se mostro eficaz en la desinfeccion por contacto de los cateteres, consiguio embeber la pared de silicona dotando al cateter de capacidad antiadhesiva durante 4 dias y ademas consiguio atravesar la pared de silicona, de modo que la infusion del mismo en la luz se siguio de desinfeccion de la superficie externa.
