Su pensamiento filosofico gira en torno al concepto de vida, que es entendida en su forma mas amplia posible. La vida como fuente inagotable sera el origen de religion, el arte y la moral.  la segunda parte de este trabajo se ocupa de la parte consagrada al pensamiento moral. Los antecedentes de su teoria moral se encuentran en el utilitarismo. Epicuro es para nuestro autor el origen de tal teoria. Para guyau la moralidad es la maxima realizacion de la vida, por tal motivo rechazara todo aquello que pueda entorpecer tal realizacion. La obligacion y la sancion seran estudiados a fondo con el fin de demostrar que no son indispensables para la realizacion moral. A esta teoria la llama anomica. Y consiste en realizar la propia naturaleza mediante los llamados por guyay equivalentes del deber.  las ultimas paginas son para mostrar que la teoria se extendio a kropotkin, nietzsche y
