Se ha estudiado la interaccion del catodo de nio con el electrolito y los efectos que produce la modificacion del catodo mediante la impregnacion de aditivos (cerio), observandose como disminuye la corrosion cuando se utilizan peque\u00f1as cantidades de aditivos (por debajo del 1%). Durante el funcionamiento de estas pilas el nio sufre el proceso de litiacion, por lo que se ha propuesto sustituir dicho catodo por un oxido mixto de litio niquel de composicion lio, 33nio, 670, que
