El estudio de factores biologicos junto a los factores pronostico tradicionales ha despertado interes en los ultimos a\u00f1os. Hipotesis: en el carcinoma epidermoide de laringe, la proliferacion de las celulas tumorales y los factores relacionados con su control podrian conferir una ventaja al tumor, que se pondria de manifiesto en el pronostico del paciente.  objetivos: 1) determinar la expresion de la p53 y de la ciclina d-1 en el cancer de laringe y su relacion con las caracteristicas biologicas del tumor, incluidas la ploidia y la proliferacion. 2) valorar la relacion existente entre la expresion de la p53 y de la ciclina d-1. 3) estudiar el valor pronostico de la p53, la ciclina d-1, la ploidia y la proliferacion, junto a los factores pronosticos clasicos. Material y metodos: se estudiaron setenta y ocho pacientes diagnosticados de carcinoma epidermoide de laringe en el hospital general universitario de elche durante el periodo de tiempo comprendido entre el 1-i-80 y el 31-12-86. De forma retrospectiva, se recogieron los datos clinicos de interes. Se estudio una serie de caracteristicas histologicas microscopicas del tumor. Se determino por citometria de flujo la ploidia y el indice de proliferacion en cada caso. Se estudio la expresion de pcna, de p53 y de ciclina d-1 por inmunohistoquimica. Se calcularon las curvas de supervivencia actuarial y de tiempo libre de enfermedad para las diferentes variables y las posibles diferencias entre dos o mas curvas. Por ultimo, el modelo multivariante elegido para el analisis de la interaccion sobre el tiempo de supervivencia fue el modelo de regresion de cox. Conclusiones: 1) en el carcinoma epidermoide de laringe, tanto la expresion nuclear de la proteina p53 como de la ciclina d-1 son un fenomeno frecuente que no esta relacionado con la progresion del tumor a estadios avanzados.
