Las conclusiones extraidas de este trabajo se pueden resumir en los siguientes puntos: a) utilizando el dise\u00f1o de estructuras duales alumina-titanato de alumino, obtenidos \u00abin situ\u00bb y con diferente tama\u00f1o de grano tanto de la matriz de alumina como de la fase dispersa de titanato de aluminio, se ha puesto claramente de manifiesto que la fase dispersa de titanato de aluminio juega un papel importante en la resistencia a la propagacion de la grieta, tanto en cargas monotonicas como ciclicas, solo en el regimen de grietas cortas por el contrario, en el rango de grietas largas, es el tama\u00f1o del grano de la matriz de alumina el que produce un efecto de reforzamiento, siendo despreciable la contribucion del titanato de aluminio. B) se ha probado, por primera vez en la literatura cientifica, que mediante el dise\u00f1o de estructuras laminares con funcion gradiente en materiales fragiles (como es el caso de la mullita) se pueden obtener materiales compuestos con una resistencia a la fatiga ciclica muy superior a la que presentan los correspondientes materiales ceramicos monoliticos. Este hecho hace posible el dise\u00f1o de una nueva familia de materiales con una distribucion especifica de tensiones residuales que pueden ajustarse a los requerimientos de una determinada
