Cerevisiae que traduce eficazmente mensajeros exogenos naturales y artificiales.  con este extracto de traduccion \u00abin vitro\u00bb se ha estudiado la funcion de las proteinas p1 y p2 del tallo de la subunidad mayor del ribosoma. Estas proteinas tienen unas caracteristicas excepcionales entre las proteinas ribosomicas: son muy acidas tienen algunos rasgos conservados entre todos los organismos eucariotas.  la interrupcion de los genes que las codifican indica que no son esenciales, pero modifican el fenotipo de las celulas. Estas caracteristicas parecen implicar una funcion adicional a la ya descrita de interaccion con los factores de elongacion.  para ello, usando extractos de cepas silvestres se ha estudiado el intercambio de las proteinas acidas en presencia o ausencia de inhibidores de la sintesis proteica, encontrandose que este intercambio se produce de una manera especifica durante la iniciacion.  con extractos de cepas mutantes en las proteinas acidas se ha demostrado que la presencia de las mismas en el ribosoma hace mas eficiente el proceso de la traduccion, y que su presencia o ausencia
