Mat es un dimero de 102 kda.  posee mayor afinidad por metionina y atp que mat iii, y unos valores de ro.5 y ki que indican una mayor sensibilidad a la inhibicion por gssg y a la modulacion por la relacion gsh\/gssg. La probabilidad de una catalisis mediada por tioltransferasas en las dos isoformas de mat fue analizada in vitro. La proteina disulfuro isomerasa (pdi) y la tioredoxina modifican las constantes de oxidacion y de inhibicion de mat hepatica, alterando su estado redox.
