  en la primera -una vision de conjunto de las cofradias de Madrid- se ofrecen los marcos constitucionales, la evolucion de estas instituciones durante la edad moderna y el analisis de los conceptos comunes a todas ellas, fraternidad y comunidad.  en la segunda parte se analiza un grupo especifico de cofradias: las llamadas sacramentales; sus pautas de integracion, el gobierno de las mismas y los conceptos de prestigio y sociabilidad.  finalmente, en la tercera parte se estudia una cofradia significativa, la de san pedro martir de Madrid formada por familiares y oficios de la
