La deficiencia de esta hormona durante el periodo perinatal provoca da\u00f1os irreversibles en el cerebro, pero solo muy recientemente se han empezado a caracterizar genes que esten bajo el control de la hormona tiroidea en el cerebro. En esta memoria se presenta un nuevo avance en cuanto al conocimiento del mecanismo de t3 en el cerebro, al demostrar que la expresion del genoma mitocondrial en este organo es dependiente del estado tiroideo. La bajada que hemos observado en la expresion del genoma mitocondrial en cerebro de neonatos hipotiroideos tiene como consecuencia una menor actividad mitocondrial asi como una morfolog\u00eda alterada de las mitocondrias neuronales en la corteza cerebral, estriado e hipocampo.  por ultimo, diversos analisis tanto de la region reguladora del genoma mitocondrial como del promotor del factor de transcripcion mitocondrial humano mttfa sugieren que el efecto de t3 sobre el genoma mitocondrial podria ser mediado a traves del nucleo mediante el control de factores de transcripcion o proteinas
